Vehicle Registration

Note: You must register in the county you will be living in. Please confirm this information by either going online or calling the numbers provided.  Please contact your local tax office to verify information, for fee info or to find out alternatives sites for registration  and renewals. You will need to obtain the following:

• Texas Inspection (for emissions testing) 
• Title or most recent registration receipt · Proof of Insurance 
• If vehicle is paid for you can turn title in and get a Texas title or you may keep your title and get “Registration Purposes Only.” It is better in the long run to change to a Texas Registration. If you have lien holder then you have to do Registration Purposes only.  

Texas residents who own a motor vehicle are requireed by law to renew thier vehicle registration annually. You have three registration options

• Register Online ( for residents in participating counties only )
• Register by Mail
• Register in Person

If you are a new resident or your registration has expired, you can only register in person and you must register in the county you will be living in. For more Information about vehicle registration, visit https://www.txdot.gov/

Registrtation renewal notices are mailed to all registered vehicle owners. To register by mail, send the following to your county tax office: 

• Renewal Notice ( keep the vehicle owner's section for your records )
• Photocopy of your vehicle insurance card
• Registration Fee ( varies by county ) plus $1 mail-in fee

If you did not receive your renewal notice, please contact your county tax office for assistance. You should ask a tax office representative to verify your mailing address. 

To register your vehicle in person, take your registration renewal notice and proof of current liability insurance to your county tax office. The registration fee is due at the time of registration. 

If you did not recieve your renewal notice, you can renew your registration using your:

• Vehicle license plate number
• Vehicle identification number 
• Registration receipt from the previous year
